Software Development Targeted Evaluation Tasks (TET) - Units 3 and 4*

Our Software Development Targeted Evaluation Tasks (TET) are written by experienced VCE teachers, who are also VCE Exam Assessors. These tasks are available exclusively to schools and are available in electronic or hardcopy format. A variety of tasks are available for both Unit 3 and Unit 4.

Students are not permitted to order these tasks.

The Software Development Targeted Evaluation Tasks (TET) are offered to schools copyright free for the restricted use of students of that school only.

TSSM's Targeted Evaluation Tasks (TET) are designed to target the key areas of the Study Design for Software Development. These tasks are a valuable resource with which to assess the coursework components of Units 3 and 4 Software Development. All tasks are supplied with full solutions.

Targeted Evaluation Tasks for Software Development have been prepared for both Units 3 and 4. The following packages are available to schools:

Unit 3 Package includes 6 tasks -

Outcome 1 for Area of Study 1 (One option included):

1. Develop four working modules with increasing complexity of programming skills.
   • Module 1: Simple calculations using arithmetic, logical and conditional operators
   • Module 2: Reading and writing files
   • Module 3: Sorting and searching with functions or methods
   • Module 4: Classes and objects
   At least two modules must include a GUI.
   All modules must include testing.

Outcome 2 for Area of Study 2 (Five options included):

1. Document a problem, need or opportunity, formulate a project plan, document an analysis, and generate design ideas and a preferred design for creating a software solution.
2. Analytical tools that depict the interactions between systems, users, data and networks 
3. An analysis that defines the requirements, constraints and scope of a solution in the form of a software requirements specification
4. A folio of design ideas and evaluation criteria
5. Detailed design specifications of the preferred design

Unit 4 Package includes 6 tasks -

Outcome 1 for Area of Study 1 (Three options included):

1. A software solution that meets the software requirements specification
2. Preparation and conduction of beta testing
3. An evaluation of the efficiency and effectiveness of the software solution AND An assessment of the effectiveness of the project plan (Gantt chart) in monitoring project progress using a Written Report
    

Outcome 2 for Area of Study 2 (Three options included):

1. Structured Questions
2. A Report in Multimedia Format
3. A Report in Written Format

These tasks provide teachers with a degree of flexiblity when setting assessment tasks for their students. While TSSM thoroughly checks the accuracy and relevance of these Targeted Evaluation Tasks (TET), prior to assessing students, it is the individual school's responsibility to ensure that these are an appropriate form of assessment.

*Unit 3 Targeted Evaluation Tasks (TET) will be released on February 6, 2025 and Unit 4 will be released on May 29, 2025. Orders made in advance are welcome.
